The surgeon confirmed what the nurses from home health had diagnosed earlier in the week. The wound in Harriet’s right leg is sufficiently healed that she no longer needs the woundVAC nor does it even need bandaging. He said “don’t let anybody touch that leg”! I don’t think he needed to tell us that :)
Next step is to have an ultrasound to determine if the implanted fistula is matured enough to use it for dialysis access. We have that scheduled for tomorrow afternoon, after dialysis in the morning. Once this is ready to use, we can have the temporary permcath removed. That has been giving her terrible pain which does not seem to be getting any better. Dr. Morris increased her pain medications yesterday and she got the best rest she has had in several nights.
