Harry Potter and Other Pagans Join the Church

Harriet and I are leaving this morning for a long weekend in Leesburg Florida. She will have dialysis treatment at the clinic there on Friday and then plans a day of back-to-school shopping with her GRANDdaughters on Saturday.

On the Lord’s Day I will have the honored privilege of preaching in our great First Baptist Church in all 3 morning services. I’ll be preaching from Acts 8:5-40 and have chosen the title “Philip- God’s Bootlegging Hitchhiker”. One of the problems the church had to deal with in Antioch was when the Harry Potter joined the church.

(Of course, I won’t miss the point that God told Philip to “arise and go toward the SOUTH!” After all, God came from the South!)

And the urgent need to get the Gospel where it has never been. In this case it is into the chariot of a man who was rich, important, religious, literate and even had a portion of the written Scriptures… BUT he was lost without “someone to guide me”.

Two of the families that our church has sent out as foreign missionaries are home this weekend as well. Keith and Angie Copley from Papua New Guinea and Donnie Spivey will be with us for the evening service. He had to leave Sherry to carry on in western Canada. One of these couples works where the Gospel had NEVER been preached and the other among folks who have the Scriptures available in their language but like the Ethiopian eunuch are in desperate need for “someone to guide” them into an understanding of the truth.

Please pray for Harriet and I this weekend for all the exciting privileges He has opened to us!
